about me :)

I was born in South Africa, from a little valley called Paarl.

I had the perfect childhood, dad’s idea of a holiday was taking us on camping trips in Africa or along the West Coast. I was never spoilt in a materialistic way, but he rather showed me different cultures and made me aware of how fortunate we are. I learned to respect animals, well how could you not if you hear the roar of a lion while laying in your miniature tent? There and then the travel bug bit me, I told my dad if I could travel the world,I’d be the happiest girl alive. I could never really decide what i wanted to do after school, it frustrated me in a way.I had many interests but not one really stood out, to me it felt like there was more out there and I wasn’t planning on sitting still till I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

My dream came true and the great thing is…I’m getting paid for it! I was pretty driven from the start and nothing could get in my way, definitely got a few frowns when instead of studying Marketing or Medicine, i decided to pack my bags and let my travels become my degree. It’s a blessing from above and I definitely don’t take it for granted, but (yes there’s a but), being an international model requires a lot of alone time and away from home and your loved ones.

That’s why I started with this blog, not to impress or prove anything, but to have a creative outlet, something I can commit to other than a travel itinerary or a training program and most of all to have fun with it, a visual diary, the world through my eyes. The reason I named the blog  ”Follow the Swallow” is because when Autumn arrives the swallows leave for a warmer Europe, when they come back to South Africa we know Spring has arrived, funnily enough we have the exact same travel plans. Like them, I always have summer. Besides who doesn’t want to be as free as them?

Maybe one day I’ll settle down and be lucky enough to share this with my kids but for now I’m a modern gipsy, one country at a time.
